DealershipVR

Client: Top Automotive Manufacturer | Role: Art Director, UI Designer

Let’s face it: the customer experience at dealerships leaves a lot to be desired. The pushy salespeople, the inaccessible inventory, the lack of personal touch throughout. One of America’s top vehicle manufacturers thought it was time for change. Why not let the prospective buyer view their dream car in VR?

I worked closely with the development team to create digital assets and ensure that the experience of the application was as elegant as the vehicles featured within it.

The Approach

For starters, we needed to develop an application that would engage both the salesperson and customer, allowing for a guided experience. The technology comprised of a tablet application operated and navigated by the salesperson that would control and adjust the experience of the customer, who would be wearing a VR headset.

Within the application, the user would be able to browse the dealer’s vehicle line-up, select a car, view it in an immersive environment, customize it visually, ending with a virtual test drive.

Conclusion

While the client ended up dropping the project prior to launch, DealershipVR was my first foray into designing for virtual reality. It also presented a unique problem to solve in creating a multi-user experience people on two separate devices that would need to work in concert. Ultimately, I believe the design was a success and led to an elegant user experience.
