K-Plan booklet

Client: Kalamazoo College | Role: Designer

Kalamazoo College wanted to create a booklet to send to prospective incoming students that would outline the personalized course methodology in a way that pushes the brand further up-market and help differentiate it from other similar educational institutions.

Being the first of three admissions mailers that were created, it set the overall visual language and styling that would carry through to the other pieces.

The Approach

Centered around Kalamazoo’s K-Plan, their personalized curriculum which caters to each individual student, the booklet employs a textural feel both through imagery and through spot UV gloss. Bars of abstract brush strokes help unify the piece while overlapping color blocks create a sense of depth. These accents helped make the booklet feel more editorial than the typical admissions booklets students receive.

This fresh take on the Kalamazoo College brand set the stage for additional print and digital pieces that would accompany the admissions campaign.

Conclusion

This piece was met with a warm reception from the client, who noted that the refreshed look for the brand helped make the piece and, consequently, the college, feel more personalized to the recipient.
